ABOUT ME: A SMITH + A WARE
I am Gemma Smith. One part Smith, and one part Ware.
Smith is my married name and a symbol of craftsmanship. Wares represents the products that I love and sell: homewares. And it's also my heritage - it's my Mum's maiden name. She introduced me to the beauty of design.
I'm obsessed by patterns, colour and beautiful design.
Growing up with an artist and textile designer for a mother, our home was always full of interesting objects and art.
After studying Textile Design at university, I went on to work in the interior design industry for over 13 years, where my love for homewares and interiors was fuelled.
The art of craftsmanship is really important to me. I believe that buying handmade pieces created by artists and makers is the perfect antidote in this age of mass production and disposable design. By shopping at Smith + Wares you are doing something very important, supporting small businesses run by creative and talented people.
